Tree’s a crowd at Uniting Church

By Alex Gretgrix

THE Echuca Moama Uniting Church will be full of festive cheer with their Festival of the Christmas Tree.

From now until December 21, you'll be able to immerse yourself in everything cheerful and merry with a range of decorated trees from organisations all over the community.

“It really started last year when one of our girls suggested we start displaying Christmas trees this time of year,” the church's Anne Peace said.

“The word has gotten out and this year it's just grown. We have 18 trees on display here in the hall, they're just lovely."

Community groups and organisations such as Twin Rivers Primary School, Echuca East Primary School as well as individuals have created some amazing trees for the public to see.

Materials such as books, recycled goods and even food have been used for the display.

“We're really thrilled. Three of our girls have taken this event on as their own project and that's what we were looking for,” she said.

“We wanted to involve the community, get out there, have people come in and enjoy the display."

Anne said the trees are a way for the church to bring the spirit of the Christmas into the community.

“I think originally our aim was to bring the spirit of Christmas back into the twin towns,” she said.

“We felt it was diminishing so we thought if we do things like this it would help."

The Festival of the Christmas Tree will be on display in the church hall Monday to Friday 10am-2pm and 5pm-7pm and between 10am and 2pm on Saturday.
